Carpe Diem translates to "Seize The Day!" And Carpe Diem Cleaning wants you to "Seize your CLEAN Day!" Why should you use a cleaning service in your home? Because if you're anything like me, your plate is crazy full. Taking care of your kids, dealing with work, balancing schedules, and trying to get all the little and big things done each day, well... to say it can be overwhelming is an understatement. What makes it harder is the guilt we feel when we can't get it all done, and how terrible we feel when we come home to a messy house because there simply aren't enough hours in the day. I'm here to tell you - it's okay to ask for help. As a matter of fact, it's smart of you to outsource this to professionals  who care for your home just as you would so that you can concentrate on the more important things in life. The relief you'll feel the first day you arrive at your clean house  is hard to truly capture. With Carpe Diem Cleaning you're not just hiring a cleaning team, you're seizing control of your life, your home's peacefulness and cleanliness, and your sanity.

So why should you choose Carpe Diem Cleaning? There are simply so many reasons. Carpe Diem is locally owned and operated with 20 years of experience, serving homes all over the Triangle and specializing in regularly scheduled cleanings in addition to as-needed services, like deep cleanings, move in and move out cleanings, and carpet cleanings.

Carpe Diem was founded in 1994 by a young entrepreneur, Wendy Clark. She began at the age of 20 with only $100, three potential clients, and a dream to create a company that would impact her community. Having grown from a one-woman enterprise to the largest locally-based residential cleaning service in the area, Carpe Diem has a well-earned reputation.

Carpe Diem’s mission is to “Seize the day, one clean house at a time. We take pride in what we do, and we treat our clients and their homes with respect and professionalism. We aim to provide an affordable service which truly meets the needs of both our clients and our employees. Our clients get more time to do the things they love and to see the people they love, while our employees are empowered to take care of the people they love. Our company exists to add value to people’s lives, to fuel the community, and to act as a bridge between individuals from different backgrounds."

Wendy and Carpe Diem Cleaning have earned numerous awards and been recognized for excellence in entrepreneurship and small business growth, receiving Durham’s 2001 Micro Business of the Year Award and the Durham Chamber’s 2010 Medium Business award.  Carpe Diem also has continually been a finalist in The Independent Weekly’s Best of the Triangle poll, winning the Indy's “Best of Housecleaning” award in 2012 and 2015. In 2013 Wendy was awarded the Martin Luther King Keeper of the Dream Award by the city of Durham.
Wendy’s intense desire to give back to the community motivates her work to improve her hometown of Durham. She focuses on volunteering with programs to help underprivileged children, and is a regular speaker for events geared to develop entrepreneurs. In 2007 she purchased the abandoned Farmer’s Exchange building in Northeast Central Durham and transformed it into beautiful community office space for small businesses and nonprofits. Wendy believes strongly in being an integral team player within the community and always strives to model principle-based integrity.

Wendy has worked so hard to better the lives of her employees as well as the Durham business and entrepreneur community. Because of this, Carpe Diem was selected as one of 100 businesses around the country for a project called Small Business Revolution. It's yet another feather in the cap of this great company. If you support local businesses, Carpe Diem is a shining example.

Carpe Diem Cleaning believes that no woman should have to fight cancer and worry about having a clean home. Carpe Diem Cleaning partners with Cleaning for a Reason to provide free housecleaning services to women receiving treatment for cancer.  As their client in this video states "Having a dirty house is stressful, fighting the disease was stressful enough. When I heard about Cleaning for Reason, it was a godsend... and I felt such a sense of peace." When you choose Carpe Diem Cleaning, you are supporting their wonderful campaign to care for women in the fight of their lives, and that is profoundly kind.

So let's talk about the holiday season! Everyday life is hectic enough, but when December rolls around the to-do list and the stress that goes with it are in overdrive. Parties, out of town guests, combined with decorating to do and cookies to bake... the house needs to be sparkling, festive, and spotless more than ever. But how, when the days are short and your free time even shorter? Carpe Diem Saturday Cleanings! Exclusively during the Holidays they break with their Monday through Friday schedule and make several Saturdays available for anyone to schedule a cleaning! Both regular clients and new clients are able to take advantage of these special Saturdays. There are two remaining before 2016, Dec 12th and 19th, so call or visit the website now!

Want another reason to love Carpe Diem? They are committed to cleaning in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way. Some of the ways they practice this?
  • Using reusable cloth towels instead of paper towels and cloth mop covers instead of disposable Swiffer pads. Also they recycle whenever possible.
  • Employing eco-friendly cleaning products like water, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide.
  • Repurposing vehicles The majority of their fleet of vehicles are police cars that have been repurposed for our teams. (Then they transform them into amazing driveable works of art by local artist Edie Cohn, certainly eyecatching!)
  • Transforming unused space into office space Their office is housed in a historic building in East Durham which was transformed from an abandoned warehouse to community office space.

So how can Carpe Diem Cleaning help you?

They offer regular scheduled cleanings to keep your house in tip top shape on a weekly, bi-weekly, and every four week basis.  To get started a new client has an in-home consultation with one of Carpe Diem's managers, followed by a thorough deep cleaning to establish a baseline level of clean which they then maintain with regularly scheduled cleanings. Maintenance cleanings include removing buildup on the surfaces in kitchens and bathrooms, dusting throughout the home, bed making, cleaning baseboards and trim, vacuuming, mopping, and taking out trash and recycling.
Another Carpe Diem favorite is Kitchen, Bathrooms, and Floors. This economical package includes all the exposed surfaces in your kitchen and bathrooms as well as vacuuming all carpet and mopping all hard surfaced floors throughout the house. Many clients prefer this style of cleaning as they can focus on dusting personal items as needed and can leave the heavier work to us.
Carpe Diem also happily provides an assortment of as-needed cleanings like Deep Cleaning, Move Out Cleaning, and Carpet Cleaning. There is a type of cleaning and schedule to suit each family's needs - just give them a call or go to their website to find out!

Carpe Diem is simply doing something other cleaning services aren't and their clients are singing their praises.

“The fact that it’s a small business run by women just makes me happier with the decision. Their camaraderie and professionalism feels good in my house. The office staff are very, very prompt and unfailingly gracious; it’s always nice to correspond with them. They really work with you, accommodating special requests and schedule changes as they are able. That’s what makes me happiest about using Carpe Diem to clean my house—it’s clear that there is a great deal of respect among the staff... I also do have a sense that everyone is accorded the dignity that everyone, each of us, is due as human beings.” - Greta

“Balancing the demands of work and home can be challenging.  It is a huge help that our major cleaning needs are regularly and reliably taken care of by the trustworthy folks at Carpe Diem.  It is one thing off my plate that allows me to focus more on my family.” - Brenda

“After hiring Carpe Diem for the first time, I wished I had done this
years ago. I come home to a clean space that I don’t have to manage. I get to spend more time with my kids, more time growing my business, and more time with my partner. It’s worth every penny.” - Jennifer
