Motherhood is an incredibly vulnerable time for women. Not only is it a physical strain on the body, but so much is expected of moms, and there are so many conflicting ideals we're supposed to live up to. Cheerful homemaker, adoring spouse, parent volunteer extraordinaire, perfect employee... before you know it, you’ve lost a sense of yourself and feel overwhelmed by those choices that aren't really choices, where you'll feel judged no matter what. The thing is, the longer you linger in that place where you feel voiceless, overwhelmed, and unsure the more exhausted you’ll feel. Instead of waiting for someone else to step up or hoping things will change, consider a better way: Your way. Life coach Elizabeth Johnson helps smart, busy women break out of what's not working and learn, then embrace what does. Through her business "Outside the Mom Box", she has spent years helping women listen to themselves, not "lean in", and say ‘no’ to what’s holding them back. Her goal is to help you "Do more of what you want your way and less of what you don’t."

Elizabeth is a fellow mom and posse member whose professional background includes time in corporate America and the non-profit worlds, more recently as the crisis line coordinator for a local domestic violence agency. She has worked with survivors of violence for 10 years and is one of only three educators worldwide certified by Penny Simkin & Phyllis Klaus to deliver the trauma-informed training based on their book, When Survivors Give Birth.
She explains that “the mom box” is a metaphor for the way that society categorizes and compartmentalizes women. To be “outside the mom box” is to step outside the boxes that we’re placed in as a women…whether that’s mom or childfree, wife or single, beautiful or unattractive, fat or thin…and create a life that’s not only larger than a box but reflective of who we are as an individual in the world. And that creation and discovery part are what I'll help you with!" She offers individual coaching, group coaching and trauma-informed trainings to help women feel and act with greater confidence in their personal and professional lives.
Why would someone choose to use a life coach instead of a therapist? Elizabeth notes that "coaching is usually time-limited and specific. It’s not about periodic check-ins without real structure. My personal style of coaching centers on accountability and action as well as support. I challenge my clients! They show up and work hard... My clients are buying success, support and accountability. Practically speaking, this takes the form of tools and trainings that bring their gifts and talents to the forefront.. I see them as smart, creative and whole women who need support and resources to live better. My job is to empower them to make personal changes that can integrate into their life in a way that feels authentic."
Outside the Mom Box clients get success, support and accountability when they choose Elizabeth as their life coach. Elizabeth uses a multitude of tools and trainings she's learned over years of helping women succeed that bring the gifts and talents of her clients to the forefront. Part of her technique is also offering thoughtful guidance to identify what’s not working and how to change those things. Her clients walk away after coaching with the time, energy and direction they lacked, along with the personal and/or professional happiness and satisfaction they desire. They've gotten outside of the mom box and back into their actualized self. Aren't you worth working on, after you've done so much for others?

If you've read this far, take a second to ask - why are you here? Have you been wondering what you’re doing with your life or why everyone else’s needs feel more important than your own?  Have you felt lost or insecure?
Perhaps you’re searching for something better…
…or the “right” reason to quit your job.

... or to go back to work after being a stay at home mom.
Maybe you’re just bored and tired of the same old thing.
The Pandora Passport is Outside of the Mom Box's eight-week group coaching workshop that offers you a trusted path out of stuck and into a life that offers success and meaning on your terms.
You had a purpose before everyone else had their opinion. In this workshop, participants shake free from what’s holding them in that limbo of stuck, things like other people’s opinions, self-doubt and perfectionism. As you shed what doesn’t work, you’ll also dig deep to learn what does. Together, you’ll identify your unique personal values and learn how and why to position those values as the ticket for all of life’s journeys.
Why Pandora? She’s the troublemaker who carelessly opened the box containing all the world’s problems, right?
Or was she?
Interpretations vary but what we do know is Pandora is given a jar, not a box. And she opens the jar out of curiosity, not with ill-intent. Pandora doesn’t know what’s inside. Bad things fly out before she can stop them but something remains behind: hope.
In The Pandora Passport, workshop participants are Pandora. Participants will be curiously opening the box of their own life and quite literally letting it all out, knowing hope is always there. This workshop is limited to a small number to ensure plenty of one-on-one time and a safe space for honest talk and non-judgy personal exploration.
Elizabeth is excited to offer SoDu Parents Posse mamas $15 off the next session of The Pandora Passport as a way to show her support for the mamas who do so much for their families. This women-only, small group coaching experience starts Tuesday October 20 and runs from 6-9 pm for eight weeks. Be sure to enter coupon code TA8YMPK when you check-out to get the discount. This coupon expires 10/13/15 so don't wait! But you won't want to anyway; space is extremely limited to ensure plenty of individual attention and to foster a supportive community.

"Outside the Mom Box" gets results that are beyond expectations, because Elizabeth believes in each woman's true potential, even before they can see it themselves.

“Our work together has changed my life. I don’t even know or recognize the woman who walked into your office in February. Since we started our work together, I have achieved so many goals: personally, professionally, financially. You taught me to honor my passions and gave me every tool I need to be a better person. You have made an indelible difference in my life and my future. Thank you for your honesty, leadership and support. You are changing the world by giving women back themselves.”
—Hallie Kennedy

In addition to Pandora Passport, Elizabeth also has more intensive one on one methods, called "Bang it Out Coaching" and another workshop about gaining self confidence called "Uncommon Confidence". Another upcoming event she has is Active Listening 101, which is incredibly helpful in building communication skills for for anyone who deals with clients or patients including coaches, doulas, therapists, doctors, nurses, counselors, childbirth educators, and first time business owners who are new to dealing with customers.

Her website has so much useful information, I urge you to check it out here - at
"Outside the Mom Box" and you can also follow the blog or follow along on facebook.

While there you can also subscribe to a free weekly newsletter that I just love, offering little tidbits of advice and thought provoking pieces that help you make some pretty important realizations about yourself in just moments. My favorite ones are about how we seek validation through external means (empty stomach syndrome) and how we need to put things down - like our phone - to pick up what really matters.
So think about it as you make dinner, as you drive to work, as you pick up the kids. . .
is there room on your calendar for you? What does it look like?
Is there a place for you outside of the mom box you've found yourself trapped in?
Contact Elizabeth today to find out how she can help you find you again.
